Winds of Fire- Opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us..."
-1 Corinthians 5:18a

A couple of weeks ago many of you experienced the privilege of exercising your faith outside the walls of the church building, when you gave blankets and prayed for peoples hurts and needs. We witnessed firsthand the need for Jesus in the lives of people. We also noticed how receptive people are when offered love and compassion.

We have another opportunity to represent Jesus to these same people Saturday January 17. We will leave GLCC at 4:20 and meet Martin and Terry at Streetlights once again, before heading out to the streets to share the same opportunity of salvation Jesus first shared with us.

When: Saturday, January 17
Where: Downtown GR
Leave GLCC: 4:20 pm
Returnto GLCC: approximatly 9:00pm

Hope to see you there!

Faith in action

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
-Jesus (after washing His disciples feet).

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. "
-Jesus

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
-Matthew 14:14 (then fed them)

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
-James 2:14-17

How Great is our God Pt. 3 & 4

Here is part 3 & 4 of "How Great is our God!" a message by Louie Giglio. Each video is about 10 minutes in length and well worth every second. Louie is a very gifted speaker and leaves us with a powerful message about the greatness of God and God's creation, from the vastness and complexity of the universe, to the smallest of details found at the cellular level. After watching these you may find it necessary to pause and worship the Creator of all things big and small.

If you haven't watched parts 1& 2, scroll down to the archives and go to July, 2008 or click the label below.

See You at The Pole

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." -Zephaniah 3:17
This was the scene this morning as school was begining at Wayland High and schools all across the nation. As stated in the verse above God must have "taken great delight" as students who claim His name continued joining in the circle as they arrived at school to pray for their fellow students, each other and thier school. What a great way to start the day!

Thursday

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed...

Well here I am trying to put a finished "look" on the blog and it's not going so well. If I were a writer I would say I have writers block..... Then I ran across John 17:1-(see above).

You see the purpose of this blog has been to share information, spread the word and communicate upcoming events (ministries) such as those to the right and others not yet posted for the summer. That's all good and well....

But I want more and I believe you do to. We can not be OK with successful events or nice web pages or great exposure or all the fun a person can ask for. All of these things are good.... but there needs to be more.

In the middle of teaching His disciples Jesus paused, looked toward heaven and prayed- He prayed that the time has come for God to glorify Himself- through Jesus.

Jesus Prayed. Often Jesus would pause to pray or even "sneak" off to be alone and pray. Before we rush headfirst into the many opportunities to minister this summer- let us pray for God to glorify Himself and do extraordinary things we can not do ourselves.

Pray for God to reveal Himself; through His people-us- and our love for one another, through His love for the lost (He loves them through us), through our generosity toward others, through our interest in people, through our devotion to Christ.

With God before us these will not be summer programs, rather they will be opportunities for lives to be changed forever!!

Let us all hunger and pray for the presence of God- Together

During the next week I will be making a number of changes to the blog to better reflect our summer ministries here at GLCC. The blog "should" stay fully functional throughout this time so feel free to leave a comment, browse the calendar- and register for VBS. More to come

Whatta Day

Thank you to all that served Sunday morning (Ushers, Greeters, Praise team) all of you enriched the lives of many yesterday.

God was workin some good soil last night and His seed appeared to be taking root. My prayer for all of you is this- However God spoke to your heart last night, you take and run with it, never forgetting how He spoke to you, nor turning back. God Bless all of you, Pastor Chuck

Spaghetti Dinner

I couldn't resist posting this picture, but seriously everyone is invited to a spaghetti dinner follow the morning service. This will be another great opportunity to raise money for the Quiz Teams trip to Oregon in June.

Quizzers taking a break at regionals

Michigan Adventure
You will need to be at church Saturday the 17th at 9:15 am. We will return to GLCC 11:30 pm. Those of you who prepaid your tickets include 1 lunch in the park. Pack another lunch as we will go to the vans as a group about 4:30 for dinner.
I have 2 extra tickets ($35.00 ea.) for anyone who would like to go yet.

Final thought-
I want to encourage you this week to re-read Mark 4:1-20 and ask yourself-
  1. Have I been like the hardened path this week?
  2. Or the rocky ground with shallow soil?
  3. Or allowed the weeds of life to crowd Jesus out?
  4. Or am I allowing the Spirit of Christ to crowd out the weeds?

If you find you fall under the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd catagory DON'T BE DISCOURAGED! You can start all over right now! In fact, if you took the time to evaluate yourself you have already begun. :)

Have a GREAT week all- P.C.

Doesn't seem fair, does it?

Trip to Oregon June- 23

In just 12 short weeks GLCC's Quiz Team will be heading out to the IFCA National convention in Portland Oregan. Portland is 2,200 miles to the west.
Because it is so far away the Quiz Team (there they are in the red plane) will fly so they arrive all refreshed and ready to quiz at the convention. (By the way I think that might be Mitch waving, maybe Jake I'm not sure:)
We could ask our fearless Quiz coach Dave to fly the plane in order to save some $$, but by the looks of things, (yep, thats an actual picture of Dave at flight school:) he is more comfortable with 18 wheels under him.

Sooo it is probably best that the Quizzers fly the friendly skies over North America in a BIG bird. And that won't be cheap.
The Challenge
The Quiz Team: Kim G, Jake S, Estelle S, Mitch T and Laura V, have memorized hudreds of bible verses togethor and competed at various churches throughout Michigan and the mid-west to prepare themselves for nationals in June. The only thing between the Quiz Team and Oregon now is cost$$.
Opportunity
Remember all that snow we shoveled back in January? Many hands made light work of all the driveways that day and much good came from it (all those groceries!). Calvary Crew now has another opportunity to work together once again, this time to get the Quizzers to Oregon.
What can you do?
Well first thing you can do is pray for the quizzers-Kim, Jake, Estelle, Mitch and Laura, and their coaches Dave and Linda. Ask God to sharpen their minds and help them to remember all the verses they have been studying. Ask God how you can help the quizzers reach their goal.
Next comment or E-mail me pastorchuck@fnwusers.com with your thoughts or ingenius ideas for raising the money needed for the trip.

Sunday's adventure

Well it made for a long day but it was well worth the trip. Are you rested up yet? I really appreciated the way Mercy Me closed the evening with such a spirit of oneness and worship. And yep, I even enjoyed a song or three by Skillet :). I am looking forward to your feedback on the evening-
